Cotton Candy Grapes and Witch Fingers at FreshBitesDaily.comEditor’s note: This post comes from 11-year-old Frederick about his recent experience with the new boutique grapes “Cotton Candy Grapes” and “Witches Fingers.” These grapes have been developed using plant breeding techniques. They are not genetically modified — they do not combine grapes with actual cotton candy DNA nor with the DNA from pointy fingers. They are “all grape” and are grown near our house, giving us a special urgency to indulge. 🙂

Last week my good friend Gary said we could have a special treat. He told me that there was a really sweet grape that some people thought tasted like cotton candy. We went to Gary’s house in Bakersfield and tasted some. They tasted exactly like cotton candy. They were sweet, juicy, and crunchy. Then Gary pulled out another kind of grape called Witch Fingers. I didn’t even know it was a grape when I saw it. They looked more pointy at the end and pepper-shaped. I can see why they are called “Witch Fingers.” Witch Fingers tasted good too. It was hard to stop eating them but mama made me stop after a while. I played with Gary’s cat and then snuck six grapes in my pocket when my mama wasn’t looking. I snuck six grapes because it takes one hour and thirty minutes to get home from Bakersfield and I would have one grape every fifteen minutes during the car ride.

When we got home we gave dada and Alastair a Witch Finger. Mama asked them what they thought it was. Dada said “it seems like a grape.” I knew dada would get it! Then we had Dada taste the cotton candy grape and we asked him “What does it taste like?” And he said, “I don’t know.” Mama said, “Think of clown parades and carnivals.” And then Dada said, “Cotton Candy!”

Eating Cotton Candy grapes makes me want to learn how they make them but until then I will enjoy eating them.
